Safe Sex-
Offends White House
The Gay Community News reports that the Ohio Depart ment of Health is one of eight groups whose grants for innovative projects in AIDS education may be jeopardized by new standards recently announced by the Centers for Disease Control.
Dr. Michael Lane, head of the preventative services at the CDC, has announced the new guidelines. They require that the language in written or visual material used in promoting education about AIDS or safe sex should be judged inoffensive to most educated adults outside the gay community. Pictorial and audio-visual material must not show anal or genital areas, or depict safe or unsafe sex.
The CDC guidelines are to be carried out by local or

state boards, consisting of at least five persons. Each board is to be a "reasonable cross section of the community, not drawn predominantly from the targeted group."
The grantee may select the review panel, but its choice must be approved by the director, or by the local or state health department.
Lane told the CGN, "People above me in the department weren't prepared to fund things that used words like cocksucking. The whole problem would be embarrassing and could jerk the entire program from under our feet."
According to rumor, the new gidelines were imposed on the CDC from the White House, probably emating from a Cabinet member of the president himself.
Quarantine Bill Dies:
The Ohio House Health and Retirement Committee rejectthe bill introduced by Rep. Don Gilmore, Columbus Republican, calling for local boards of health to quarantine persons with AIDS until they have recovered and can no longer communicate the virus to others. Apparently Gilmore considered all persons testing positive for the HTLV-3 virus to have AIDS.
In a statement to the Committee, Gilmore said he no longer supported the quarantine provision. He explained, "When I looked into it further, I found out that you would get only one-tenth
ERGPC Elections
At its January 15 meeting the Eleanor Roosevelt Gay
Democratic Club voted to re-
name itself the Eleanor Roosevelt Gay Political Club, removing the Democratic label while retaining the rest of its established name. An alternative motion changing its name to the Greater Cleveland Gay Political Coalition was defeated. Although suggestions had been made at earlier meetings to add the word "lesbian to the new name, no such proposal was offered.
Nominations for new officers include Jerry Boxes, president; Win Weizer, vicepresident; Alan Holcer, secretary; Jim Gannon, treasurer; and Walt Weller, fundraising person. No nominations were offered for the public relations position. Elections will take place at the next meeting.

of one per cent of the people with the AIDS virus. Apparently Gilmore still thinks everyone testing_positive for HTLV-3 has AIDS.
Gilmore's bill would also have forbidden any child with the virus to attend school, but required school districts to ensure he or she received educational instruction through tutoring. Whether quarantined children would be tutored by adults with the virus was unclear.
Scott Walton, co-founder of the Columbus AIDS Taskforce, said Gilmore "is moving in the right direction" by calling for increased education about AIDS.
